Thanks so much for keeping everone updated Jen.

The first day is finished and we are exhausted... loads of fun but a long hectic day... in the afternoon it quietened down at our stall as we are not in the really thumping scrapbooking section because we are new exhibitors and I walked around snapping loads of photos of scrapping booths.
The two unknown ladies in the previous image are two of the women who are part of a 3 women distribution team who are distributing AED here in the USA.
Below are heaps of pics from the show (plus two really cute pics of Sam)

I hope this gives you a feel for how big it is and how much fun it is.
Catch you all soon

you know what stands out to me is everyone walking around with not bags but cases on wheels. They must be expecting to get heaps...too much to carry.

Hi Leanne..
It is amazing... you can't take a stroller in but EVERYONE has a tote on wheels LOL
The provocraft green totes were giveaways that went really early but they must have given heaps of them away as sooo many women have them.
We are absolutely miles away from the scrapping stalls (at least a Kilometre) and our area is not as busy as the scrapping area... but if we come back again we wont be new exhibitors and we can be in with all the big scrapping companies.
We are having so much fun but can't wait to get bcak home... It will be great to see what comes from all of the networking we have been doing and all of the media people and international distributors we have been talking with.
I will put up some more pics tomorow night

CHA is over and we are back in Phoenix... very tired and looking forward to flying home on Sunday... (Superbowl Sunday!!)
We had a great time at the show and talked to so many fun and interesting people.... many of these were from Australia and many were from all over the world.. although I guess the bulk of them were from the US.
The people that were at the show were mosly retailers, designers (DT Members and freelance scrappers), media and wholesalers. Each of these categories of people were fun to talk with and we networked with as many people as we could. We will eventually have picked up several new retailers from the show and have a few new designers to approach when we get home along with potential distributors in some very exotic areas like Panama, South Africa, New Zealand, Germany and the Carribean. It was also fun talking to the media representatives and we will hopefully get some media coverage in US print publications and through some more websites.
I will be putting up a US stockist list when we get back home but probably not until the end of the week.
Here are a few more pics... some that I didn't put up with the first batch and some I took on the last day of all the Aussie booths that I knew about. There are also a few more cute pics of Sam.

That's it for CHA Winter 2006. We are talking about coming back for Memory Trends in Oct in Las Vegas and also again next Jan for CHA in Anaheim... so it looks like we will be getting two trips a year to the US for a while *g*
It was very quiet in the new exhibitor section of the show (as you will be able to see from one of the pics above of the Woodstock booth - this was taken during the show on the last day) We were a long way from all the action and all of the other scrapbooking booths and it was pretty disappointing. We did see heaps of people but we know that we would have seen far more people if we had been in the other hall... next year we will not be new exhibitors so hopefully it will be a bigger year for us.
If any US scrappers or retailers are checking this thread out we have plenty of paper in Las Vegas with our distributor so get in touch with them and place an order *g* (or get your lss to get in touch with them if you are a scrapper)
You will find the US distributor details here http://www.alisonellisdesign.com.au/htm … butor.html

wow it all looks incredible I would love to have been there. I'm sure I wouldn't have known where to start looking and where to start (or stop) spending money!
Offline
Simone,
It wasn't a retail show so you wouldn't have been spending any money... just looking at all the product that were being released this year. There were quite a few people there gathering info on behalf of retailers that couldn't make it along and also heaps of professional designers and shop DT members so maybe you will get an opportnity to go along to a show like this one day under this sort of guise. There were also media representatives there from mags and online marketing sites... so it wasn't just all shop owners that we talked to.
Offline
I can hope! So do they just take orders - retailers can't even spend? Mind you, how do you decide as a retailer what to spend your money on. It would be so hard to make that decision. Even harder to do it on behalf of somebody else.
By the way, love Sam's hair. He looks like a dandelion seed (or fairy as we call them)!
Offline
it is an order taking only show simone... and many of the new stuff on offer doesn't even exist yet for a few months. Most of the people who go on behalf of others just collect catalogues and put business cards in buckets for give aways.... I am not sure how the retailers decide what to buy as I am sure most of them could have spent their budgets 5 times over... needless to say that many who saw us on day one and who intended to come back probably just ran out of money (and head space) so hopefully we will catch them in a quieter moment sometime during our follow up.
Sams hair was very popular everywhere we went. It is very fine and just does not want to sit flat. He is looking cuter by the day and is getting so close to walking and talking. I have heaps more really cute pics of him... but the ones I put up here were all ones that I really liked and just had to share.... they definitely show some of the character that he is growing into... He is becoming a very well travelled little boy who delights people wherever he goes... he also helps us get preferential treatment as we get put to the head of queues and have people more interested in looking at him than hassling us which is great *g*
